Incom provides essential support for APEC 2007 Taskforce

The managers responsible for the recent APEC meetings throughout Australia found that whilst project management software is essential for such a large series of events, it generally does not include the ability to track risks and their various impacts.  Unlike a standard project management approach, Incom’s risk management system allowed the Taskforce to assign consequence and probability ratings to their different types of risk, prior to the event deadline.

Incom’s systems enabled key managers throughout the organization to understand their individual risk appetites, compare them with others, and then track, evaluate and mitigate the risks for the organization as a whole.

By accessing the program via the organization’s intranet, individuals entered their own updates and managed their own risks.  Being web based, the Incom application provided a visually simple central repository of information for the entire organization which made it easy for senior management to track risk in terms they could understand and relate to.  As well as providing easily understood matrices and pie charts, Incom’s system also recorded all entries so that an historical view of risk mitigation progress could be readily achieved.

For such a large organization with a schedule driven outcome, Incom’s system allowed risk to be measured and evaluated.  It was selected by APEC Technology Branch as being one of the simplest effective systems seen to date.

“Importantly, Incom’s Risk Management systems provided the Taskforce a view of our entire risk profile, and helped managers understand their risks and the priority of treatments required to mitigate these risks”

Incom provides effective security Risk Management solution

A security section of a major state government department needed a system to manage operational and tactical risks.  The department as a whole already had in place a system for strategic risk – but this was expensive and cumbersome.

The customer found Incom’s Risk Register solution easy to use and functional.  They find the mechanism for reporting on security risk for the executive very easy to manage and very easy for the executive to understand.  The system as a whole is specific and flexible.  It enables a clear view of the potential risk factors at any one time, and in virtual real time.  Overall Incom’s Risk Register is relevant, inexpensive and easy to use.

“Overall Incom’s Risk Register is relevant, inexpensive and easy to use” the spokesman concluded.

Incom responsive to Emergency Services needs.

In May 2003, the State Emergency Service of Tasmania had completed three regional assessments of the risks arising from natural and technological hazards across the state, but had no readily available means of managing the treatment strategies.  The Service planned to develop an Access database and reporting system when they heard about Incom’s Risk Register software.

Upon analysis of their requirements, Incom enhanced the standard Risk Register, which was implemented within weeks.  The Risk Register software has impressed the SES with its sophistication yet simplicity and capability that is well beyond current needs.

“We were very impressed by Incom’s responsiveness and flexibility in meeting our needs” said the SES.

Responsive Risk Management solution for major City Council

Via competitive tender, Incom won the role for providing a risk management solution for the Council of the City of Sydney.  The Risk Coordinator found Incom’s product to be very easy to use and particularly easy to train business users.  Having enhanced the off the shelf product to suit the Council’s specific needs, working closely with the customer, Incom has upgraded the product as new developments occur and as the Council’s requirements have changed.

Having trained up to 60 people in using the product, the Risk Coordinator says no one has had an issue with the product – rather it is in understanding the concepts of risk management that issues occur.  The ability to rename any data field label within the software to align with Council’s terminology has also been a great asset for the City.

“Incom’s responses to our needs have been within 24 hours and whatever we have required has been fixed as quickly” said the Risk Coordinator.

Enterprise and Divisional risk covered by Incom Risk Register

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) initially implemented the Risk Register for its IT function, in 2005.  Incom trained the RiskPro team and installed the software in less than an hour.  Incom then developed an incident system – as managers of the MCG, a major sporting and event venue with $1bn of assets, it is imperative that the General Managers can assess and track their risks.

Incom’s Risk Register allows the enterprise to complete annual risk reviews simply and easily.  And being to ISO standard for IT security reviews, it meets requirements as a compliance tool.

“Incom is well modeled and performs well, with very flexible architecture that allows it to be shaped for the relevant organization’s needs” said a spokesperson for the MCC.

Synchronised RM across diverse public company

PMP Limited, a group of diverse businesses under one corporate umbrella is delighted by Incom’s ease of use and flexibility.

In this company, the risk management structure is decentralised to the businesses with a very small team managing the risk management process.  A controlled framework ensures that the system cannot be adjusted too much in the businesses, but the Incom system flexibility enables key information and documents to be linked appropriately.  Reports have been built to this company’s specifications.

Importantly it easily provides relevant information to Board level so that the Board only deals with risks that matter.  And for the risk manager, Incom’s software retains history so that comparative data may be reviewed.

After two years of using Incom’s Risk Register, this group has found people can use it easily and intuitively.  Risk management as a discipline has traditionally been hard to embed in the businesses but Incom has made its acceptance easier, by being easy to use.  It has not been expensive to keep people trained as the Incom product does not require a great deal of training and support.  However, when needed, Incom has provided timely and good quality support.

“Incom provides a transparent, consistent, effective system that is easily used by the different businesses within the group”

Risk Register matched Area Health Service needs

The data network of the Southern Area Health Service, NSW covers an area of approximately 166,000 sq km and required remote updating of the database by traveling auditors.

Incom enhanced Risk Register to allow remote data entry on laptops with upload to the server when the auditor returned to head office.  Other enhancements made to Risk Register included interfaces to clinical incidents and complaints management systems.  The biggest change was to flip the risk matrix so that the highest risk, rather than the lowest risk, has a value of one (1).  This aligns with the global health system triage style emergency rating system.

“Risk Register is a great system, and Incom adapted it further to suit our needs”
